Alicia Simmons is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Florida Gulf Coast University and continued her postgraduate studies by earning a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her studies included training in the connections between neurobiology and psychotherapy, and the practice of mindfulness-based, cognitive, trauma-focused, and Adlerian therapies.
Experienced in complex trauma and co-occurring mental health diagnoses, Alicia has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in residential and outpatient treatment settings. She is a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional through the International Association of Trauma Professionals and has received training in multiple trauma-focused disciplines including cognitive, play-based, and mindfulness treatment approaches.
Alicia is a professional member of the American Counseling Association and the Association for Creativity in Counseling (a division of the ACA). She was a co-presenter at the ACA 2018 National Conference and is also a member of the Association for Play Therapy.
In addition to her work as a therapist, Alicia is a Certified Yoga Instructor through Yoga Alliance and a Certified Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist through the Himalayan Institute.
Alicia embraces a holistic and relaxed approach to the counseling process with the intention of holding space for clients in a way that helps them to feel safe, supported, and empowered. She strives to meet clients where they are, using compassion, creativity, and authenticity to help clients meet their goals.
